Sofía Ortega
Sofía Ortega is a painter and visual-arts educator based in Salamanca (Spain). She completed her Fine Arts training in Salamanca and subsequently pursued postgraduate studies in Art History as well as a Master’s in Teacher Training, consolidating a profile that bridges artistic practice and pedagogy; in parallel, she works as a secondary-level Drawing teacher while continuing her own studio and field-based work. Her painting practice is strongly grounded in observational methods—especially watercolor—developed through sketchbook culture and urban sketching, with recurring motifs linked to place, travel, and everyday heritage landscapes (including series of watercolors connected to Salamanca and nearby itineraries such as Coria and Coimbra). From an art-education standpoint, this orientation is particularly coherent: watercolor and on-site drawing foster perceptual acuity, disciplined attention, and a reflective relationship with environment—capacities that translate effectively into didactic practice as well as contemporary pictorial research on lived space.
